Re:  RBI Copper Boilers and “Buy American” compliance

To Whom It May Concern:

Based on a recent agreement between the United States and Canadian governments, RBI copper boilers and water heaters manufactured in Mississauga, Ontario Canada contain the qualifying components for inclusion in the “Buy American” act as it pertains to the American Recoveries and Reinvestment Act of 2009.  Canadian companies are now able to participate in state and local public works projects that are funded by the United States’ $787 billion American Recoveries and Reinvestment Act.  This mutual agreement also approves the bidding from US based companies on projects north of the border.

The provision covers projects manufactured in designated countries to be used in projects covered by ARRA.  Canada is covered under the World Trade Organization Government Procurement Agreement (WTO GPA).  All WTO GPA countries are listed below:

World Trade Organization Government Procurement Agreement (WTO GPA) Countries
Aruba, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea (Republic of), Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan or United Kingdom.

The manifold castings, burners, heat exchanger (copper), and controls represent the major components of the finished product.  These components are all of U.S. origin and their value as a percentage of total cost exceed 60%.  While these three specific items do not represent all of the U.S. products used in assembly of the RBI product; they are the most significant items in terms of cost.  All remaining components and assembly is done in Canadian facility.

Mestek Inc., the parent company of RBI, is an American based corporation with total sales in excess of $450 million.  Mestek is also the parent to other domestic companies including Smith Cast Iron Boilers, a manufacturer of hydronic and steam boilers and Sterling Radiator, established in 1946.

8/13/2010    New "Green" Product Announcement

NEW PRODUCT ANNOUNCEMENT

Well, really a product “re-announcement”.  The Aztec product line has been in the Mestex portfolio for years and we are happy to announce a rebirth of the Aztec ASC products for indirect and indirect/direct evaporative cooling applications.

What makes this so important is that the market for evaporative cooling solutions is expanding rapidly due to the desire to cool and ventilate buildings in the “greenest” or most efficient manner possible…and nothing beats evaporative cooling for that.

The applications for evaporative cooling are numerous…factories, dry cleaners, prisons, kitchens, automobile dealer service areas, telephone equipment facilities, and computer server/data centers.

Aztec units come standard with DDC controls and are available through Applied Air representatives everywhere.

8/2/2010    PowerPoint showing the importance of gas pressure, static pressure, and voltage

gas_pressure_webinar.ppt

Bruce Standerwick, a highly experienced application specialist for Applied Air, has highlighted the importance of providing the proper natural gas pressure, external static pressure, and primary voltage when selecting and ordering gas-fired equipment.  Bruce identifies the most common problems and the fixes that can be implemented in the field...and the potential cost implications.  The PowerPoint presentation includes the speaker notes making it easier to follow Bruce's thoughts.

This PowerPoint is part of the Applied Air Webinar series.  The series has covered topics such as DDC controls, special application of DDC controls, direct gas fired heating systems, and other topics.

7/28/2010    Webinar: 'The Importance of Correct Gas Pressure, E.S.P. and Voltage'

Direct gas fired equipment is the most efficient way to heat a space that requires large amounts of outside air.  Kitchens, factories, warehouses all have requirements for vast amounts of outside air in order to maintain proper building pressure.  Proper building pressure is necessary to minimize infiltration of cold and/or dirty outside air, and to make sure that exhaust hoods and exhaust systems function properly.  There are a few key jobsite characteristics that must be defined if the system is to function as intended.  Applied Air is hosting a webinar on Monday, August 2, covering the three key pieces of information to gather.

This webinar has been scheduled for Monday, August 2nd.

7/23/2010    An Old Solution to a New Problem

TGASC-1.pdf

Data centers are popping up all over the world but they all face a common problem...too much energy being consumed by the "non-revenue" part of the electrical load.  Cooling the sea of blade servers in a modern data center is an energy-intensive process that must be controlled.  Microsoft and others have concluded that the old methods of cooling data centers are no longer necessary.  Extremely cold temperatures and tightly controlled humidity levels have been proven to contribute little to overall system stability and reliability.  This has opened the door for the use of a time-tested, low energy, "green", technology for cooling...evaporative cooling.  Applied Air is reintroducing our Aztec line of indirect, or indirect/direct, evaporative cooling systems for data centers.  The Aztec ASC line of products includes extensive outside air filtering, DDC controls with remote monitoring capability and very high efficiency heating technology.  Under the new guidelines issued by ASHRAE and the new conditions promoted by Microsoft, and others, you will find that the Aztec ASC product will provide the required air temperatures for most data centers located west of the Mississippi...without the need for expensive compressor operation.

7/8/2010    HeatNet control

HeatNet.pdf

HeatNet, RBI’s proprietary integrated boiler management system is the driving force behind RBI’s energy optimization philosophy for its high efficiency equipment and is standard equipment on all Fusion and Futera (XLF & III) Air-Fuel coupled products.  Designed for precise system control, Heat Net provides repeatability and feedback thru digital communication.  The control monitors boiler temperatures and limit circuit inputs, maintains system and domestic hot water requirements, supports boiler room components including system/domestic pump, boiler pump, combustion air damper and modulates boiler firing rate to maximize turndown ratios in order to maintain peak efficiency.   (Click on pdf for additional information)
